About Us

Bright Centres was established in 2006 by a group of young undergraduate students in London universities and young professionals who took upon themselves to give something back to their communities. They were motivated to start the centre to prevent the next generation from experiencing some of the difficulties they encounter while attempting to integrate into to mainstream UK school system.

 

Bright’s ethos of providing a brighter future was localised to the community of Lambeth. Providing exceptional services with a small but dedicated team of staff, the Alternative Provision of Education focused on supporting and assimilating students who felt disillusioned and disenfranchised with mainstream education. Closely supporting schools in the local area, Bright also nurtured the under-represented talented of Lambeth’ disadvantaged community and has been integral in Lambeth’s exponential rise in excellent academic attainment.

 

Through our work, we have averted the exclusion of many young people from school who with support from the centre have gone on to achieve academic success. We also witness the growth in confidence and development of leadership skills in many of our students which enables them to engage positively with their mainstream schools. We have strong evidence that our work is raising the achievement of students which opens up pathways for them to take up positions in further or higher education. Over 85% of the students we supported with level 2&3 went on to higher education or apprenticeship.

We have been going from strength to strength since our inception leading to been recognised as Third Sector/Community of the Year in 2009 by London’s Education Partnership Awards headed by former OFSTED chairman Sir Michael Tomlinson, for our partnership work with all stakeholder’s such as parents, mainstream, schools, LEA and other statutory and non-statutory agencies, in essence providing a caring and holistic environments for the young people that we work with. In addition to the award we achieved the following milestones during our tenth anniversary;

 

• Established formal working partnership with over 15 mainstream schools and 2FE colleges
• Worked with over 2000 students from our inception to our 10^th anniversary
• Participated in Russell Group’s Universities’ Widening participation awareness and aspiration raising projects and activities aimed at students who are the first generation to consider higher education from low socio-economic groups.
• Managed to help some of our students get into top ranking universities e.g Cambridge, Imperial College and more than 10 Russel Group Universities
• We have achieved Gold Quality Marks awarded by the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Schools
• Achieved Outstanding status in areas: in Teaching and Behaviour Management in our 2017 Inspection by London by London Borough of Lambeth Council’s Quality and Framework Team
• Recognised and commissioned by LEAs and partner schools as an AP
