The Dadaal Project was established to provide support and guidance to GCSE and sixth form students, from a black and ethnic minority background (BME). This is because there are many BME students that do not have the support network to help them with their journey to higher education. In addition, the proportion of students from these backgrounds that go into higher education is considerably low.
This year we held a Course Fair with an integrated Careers Fair, as well as a separate Careers Fair in collaboration with Bright Education Centre. This provided secondary school students with the opportunity to speak to university students studying a wide array of subjects. Throughout the day, we held workshops covering exam tips and more general tips regarding the UCAS application process.
The day was concluded with talks from Somali professionals from a range of career backgrounds including engineering; architecture and journalism, introducing secondary school students to the world of networking at their young age. In addition, this has also benefited university students, allowing them to build connections within the BME community and some of the students were offered internships.
Overall, the day was a success with approximately 100 people attending and we plan on seeing the Dadaal Project grow and help many more.
